My favourite kind of sunset Is a winter one in Queensland When I am up somewhere high With a light wind at my back And trees all around Painted black against the contrasting light And the dark distant hills rise to meet The peach horizon And scudding, rippled clouds Hang about in shades of lavender and grey. Now, the western sky is a hue of muted pink All except for one spot The True West, the cradle of the setting sun Burns orange like a furnace Beams stretching to backlight everything in reach And straight above where no clouds fly A half moon smiles crookedly Before the sun has even set Watching the world darken.
